Seafood!

When it comes to authenticity at Vero Amore, the first thing that comes to mind is probably our certified Neapolitan pizza.

Granted, we are quite proud of our pizza. But we also know that you can’t build a reputation as a purveyor of fine Neapolitan cuisine on pizza alone—there are just too many flavors and textures that get left behind. In fact, Naples’ close proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea (a portion of the Mediterranean Sea bordered by Sardinia, Sicily, and mainland Italy) means that this port city has introduced a variety of seafood specialties into the Italian and world palates.

So today, much as it might pain us, we’ll be tabling our pizza with a well-placed pun and instead we’ll explore the seafood specialties that make Vero Amore Tucson’s premier destination for Neapolitan and Italian cuisine…especially if you’re a pescatarian!

The Classics

Mention of Naples’ flavorful seafood dates back to at least the mid-18th century, when a staff member of Naples’ ambassador to France was sent to reside in Paris, bemoaning his loss of access to the culinary delicacies of his homeland forever more.

In the intervening centuries shrimp has grown in popularity to become one of the region’s favorite seafoods, and one we specialize in at Vero Amore. Shrimp can be ordered in our Roasted Garlic and Tomato Pasta dish, which includes a blend of roasted garlic, tomato, Marsala wine and cream to complement the linguine, sundried tomatoes, and pine nuts.

Or for a shrimp exclusive with a kick, try our shrimp Fra-Diavolo, topped with fresh chopped garlic, red and black pepper, and a touch of olive oil, all sautéed in a white wine and marinara sauce, and tossed with linguine. Yum!

For the Adventurous

If you can’t bring yourself to commit to just one variety of seafood, fear not! We also offer a classic Cioppino, which is a seafood stew smorgasbord inspired by the harvests of Italian coastal fishermen of centuries past. Our Cioppino includes fresh mussels, clams, shrimp and calamari, all steamed in a white wine marinara broth and served over a bed of linguine.

Last but not least, fish is well-represented on our menu via our Blackened Salmon Sorrento, a stupendous Vero Amore seafood dish. We begin with a pan-seared, blackened filet of salmon, served on a bed of pesto mushroom fettuccini in a white wine garlic San Marzano broth and garnished with arugula tomato relish.

But just because we specialize in Neapolitan cuisine doesn’t mean that you can’t find your beloved Italian favorites, even aside from seafood. Our Fettuccine Alfredo is tossed with our homemade rich and creamy Alfredo Sauce and topped with fresh parmesan, while our lasagna is a two meat, three cheese sensation baked from scratch and topped with our homemade marinara.

So whether you’re cultivating your inner pescatarian, or just craving an exquisite seafood dish, join us at Vero Amore for Tucson’s finest in Neapolitan cuisine. Or if the flavors of seafood simply don’t agree with your unique tastes…there’s always our classic Neapolitan pizza!
